Leon Black’s interest in computers started when he helped his father master a Commodore 64 game at the age of three.
Rather than sit there and watch his father struggle at a challenge in his favourite game The Great Gianna Sisters, he convinced his father to let him “get past that part”.
This was the start of an interest in computers which saw him go on to fix friends’ computer issues throughout primary and high school and go straight into the IT work force from school. After working for high-profile companies such as Microsoft, Komatsu and Suncorp, Mr Black has continued to make his mark in more recent years with Gosford based Inspired Techs, a company he established in October 2012.
His efforts saw him take out the Young Entrepreneur category at the Wyong Regional Chamber of Commerce annual business awards on Saturday night.
Mr Black, of Lisarow, said the award was humbling.
“It’s nice to see some recognition; it’s nice to know you are on the right track,” he said.
The aim of Inspired Techs is to make a move away from traditional break/fix model and become “a proactive provider to provide a better end result”.
He encouraged others who are contemplating starting their own business to not be shy.
“If you’ve got the passion and the drive, it’s well worth it,” he said.
